SIG Machine Learning Pty Ltd. (SIG ML) is an Industrial A.I. start-up based in Brisbane, specialising in intelligent control, predictive maintenance and process automation for the energy and resources sector.

SIG ML’s mission is to deliver the next-generation of engineering technology, today. Their vision is to empower engineers globally with simpler, smarter technology, to return home safely, sooner.

SIG ML is the first company to successfully fuse A.I. into control systems at scale in the Queensland upstream gas industry. This breakthrough will enable interconnected, autonomous, intelligent operations of remote assets for a safer, more sustainable energy future.

Delivering Next-Generation Engineering Technology Today: A Look into Industrial A.I. with SIG Machine Learning

In today's rapidly changing technological landscape, it's more important than ever to keep up with the latest advancements to stay competitive in the marketplace.

At SIG ML, our mission is to deliver the next-generation of engineering technology, today. For industrial applications, this requires making machines smarter and easier to operate and maintain. This results in less manual, repetitive tasks and more data-driven decisions with Industry 4.0-enabled technology.

In under two years, SIG ML has developed the “Smart Asset Manager” software, now in operation at multiple gas operating companies in Australia. The Smart Asset Manager is a suite of engineering intelligence applications that combine machine learning with discipline knowledge to enable safer, smarter, and simpler ways of operating industrial assets.

The goal of intelligence-driven applications is to promote autonomy, predictability, and systematic repeatability throughout an asset's lifecycle. SIG ML’s most impactful application to date has been the SmartPCPTM, an A.I.-Augmented Advanced Process Control (APC) application for artificial lift (pumping) systems in oil and gas assets. The SmartPCPTM is currently operational on Kelvin A.I.’s Industrial Automation platform.

To our knowledge, the SmartPCPTM is the first A.I.-based control system to be proven at scale in Australia, now controlling hundreds of gas-producing assets as an interconnected network.

In addition to Industrial A.I., SIG ML also operates an Exploration A.I. business stream. Here, our challenge is to reduce the cost and targeting risk of greenfields exploration using data-driven geoscientific anomaly prioritisation with geoscience-led machine learning predictive targeting. Our technology provides an additional intelligence layer to exploration, scaling knowledge of ore-forming systems beyond a regional scale. This is not meant to replace geological modeling but to prioritise the collection and interpretation of data and mineral targets at scale. One of our notable products in the Exploration A.I. stream is a Smart Target Generation software, which is focused on providing strategic targeting of gold and copper deposits at a craton-level. This product is currently deployed with a major mining operator in South Australia.

Our efforts have not gone unnoticed. Currently, SIG ML is experiencing a 3X revenue growth year on year since 2020, forecasted to exceed $1 million in revenue for the first time in the current financial year. We are a market leader in codifying engineering intelligence into industrial automation solutions, particularly within the oil and gas sector. To our knowledge, SIG ML is currently the only company in Australia to successfully deploy a cloud-based A.I. supervisory control system on 100+ real-world assets. We have partnered with Kelvin AI to offer a closed-loop supervisory control system, further solidifying our position as a leader in the field.

The industrial automation market is valued at USD 172.26 billion in 2022, with an expected CAGR of 10.3% from 2023 to 2030, according to Grandview Research. As the market grows, we remain committed to staying at the forefront of innovation, delivering next-generation engineering technology today and empowering engineers globally with simpler, smarter technology to return home safely, sooner.
