Western Air has been packaging high pressure compressed air packages for the Mining, Waterwell and Oil and Gas industries for over 40 years and is recognised for their unique designs that focus on safety, performance and reliability.

Custom packaged compressors are a requirement of the Drilling Industry as available space on a rig deck is limited. An innovative approach is required to design and manufacture a unit that can provide the required volume and pressure in the tightest envelopes.

Apart from the High pressure 350PSI compressors packages, Western Air have also designed the first Rotary Screw Booster capable of providing up to 1,000PSI.

Traditionally air booster compressors are made using modified diesel engines that vibrate significantly and operate at extremely high temperatures posing unacceptable site risks. Traditional, booster compressors are also costly to maintain, making them inherently poorly suited to this application.  

Western Air eradicates these issues and concerns with their world class RS 1000. The air compressor is unique as it uses oil flooded rotors to compress the air making them almost completely vibration free. The RS 1000 is able to operate at low temperatures making them a far safer alternative and they are more economical with double the service life of more traditional boosters. 

In 2019, Western Air was contacted by Capital Drilling who were having booster problems on a project in Mali where due to local resourcing and the high levels of service required on the specific machines, they were unable to properly maintain their existing boosters. Western Air was able to supply them with the RS 1000 model and thanks to its simplicity and reliability, Wester Air have reduced Capital Drilling’s maintenance to almost zero and the boosters have been running faultlessly now for more than 12 months. 

Western Air also supplies specialty lines including custom rig pack compressors.  Global mining supply giant Sandvik Mining and Construction approached Western Air wanting to reduce the size of their compressors to maximise the limited space on their drill rigs. The team was able to deliver a custom packaged high-pressure compressor designed specifically for Sandvik Mining and Constructions exploration drill rigs. These models are now standard on all Sandvik’s exploration drills operating throughout the world.
